Audience: The guide was created for faculty and staff who produce digital materials (presentations, documents, course content), but don't have a background in web design or accessibility. Color contrast is frequently overlooked in everyday content creation, and insufficient contrast can make text difficult or impossible to read for users with low vision or color blindness. This job aid addresses that gap without assuming any prior technical knowledge.
Process: The job aid was structured as a visual, self-guided walkthrough built around the actual interface of the WebAIM tool. Annotated screenshots were used at each step so users could orient themselves in the tool and understand what they were looking at. The guide also incorporates explanation of compliance thresholds — the 4.5:1 minimum ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text at the WCAG AA standard, as well as the stricter AAA requirements, so users could interpret their results in context, not just read a pass or fail.
Outcome: The job aid allows faculty and staff to check their own color contrast independently, without needing to contact accessibility staff for basic compliance questions. It reduces reliance on direct support for a task that can be self-served with the right guidance, and helps build baseline accessibility awareness among content creators across the organization.
